Texas Hippie Coalition-Peacemaker

Texas Hippie Coalition (THC) are often compared to Pantera. I think this is a mistake. While they are from Texas, like pot, and have an affinity for strippers; music wise they more closely resemble an amped up Saliva. THC is not nearly as heavy as Pantera but that is not meant in a bad way. Their songs are very groove oriented but with an apparent pop sensibility to it.

Peacemaker gets off to a rip roaring stop with “Hands Up”. While the song is an outlaw’s tale, it is more like an anthem for outlaws that is sung by every member of SAMCRO. THC is so good at writing catchy songs that the idiotic rhyming in “Damn You To Hell” are soon forgotten by the time the chorus kick in. You’re too busy smiling and banging your head. The highlight of the album is “Turn It Up” an ode to the hard working ladies on the poles.

When THC is good, they’re good. Now when they’re bad, they’re bad. The other songs are very mediocre and all just seem to run together. The silly lyrics and false bravado that work on the good songs just seems silly and embarrassing here.

You may hear a couple of THC songs on the radio and think Peacemaker will be a good album. You’re sort of right. Everyone knows the two rockin’ Saliva songs but not the other ones.

There’s a reason why.
