Cannibal Corpse-Torture

It’s weird the way you can become a fan of a band. From a friend recommending them to seeing them open for another band. While I had heard and seen Cannibal Corpse before, the thing that really made me a fan was seeing their DVD Centuries of Torment. The documentary gave you a real insight on the band from its’ earliest days until a couple years ago. After seeing that I became a huge fan and like others was anxiously awaiting the release of Torture.

It was well worth the wait as Torture has to be one of their best albums. From beginning to end it is a Death Metal assault on one’s ears. It showcases the band in perfect sync with one another. From the rhythm section of Alex Wesbster and Paul Mazurkiewicz. To the dueling guitars of Pat O’Brien and Rob Barrett. They create a slab of riff heavy goodness that is both musically assaulting yet headbangingly catchy.

One of the great things about Cannibal Corpse is singer, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. He has unique ability to belt out the trademark guttural vocal lines while making every word very understandable. It serves as a perfect compliment to Cannibal Corpse’s trademark lyrical content of gore, murder, and other nightmarish stuff. Just listen to “Scourge Of Iron” or “As Deep As The Knife Will Go” and hear how all they all combine.

Torture is the probably the best metal album of the year. A collection of some of the best Death Metal you will ever hear. It is the perfect representation of the genre and sets the bar high for all others Metal bands.

Buy it.

Buy it now.

No, seriously, go out and buy it right now.

Trixter-New Audio Machine

My initial reaction to the thought of a new Trixter CD coming out is essentially the same to the one for Battleship The Movie.

It has been a decade since the band last did a studio album. And that one wasn’t a chart burner by any means. Nonetheless the boys from New Jersey have just released New Audio Machine. The album starts of dubiously with “Drag Me Down”, a cookie cutter blues rocker that evoked all those crappy songs that tried to dirty up the blues just because Cinderella had some success on their third album with it. Thankfully after that everything else it mostly uphill. “Get On It” follows and shows off what made this style of music popular. Catchy hooks and gang vocals that just reels the listener in. While “Machine” and “Dirty Love” may be formulaic it doesn’t make them less enjoyable.

The first single, and video, is “Tattoos & Misery” probably the best song off the album. A rollicking recollection of regret that everyone should relate to. Assuming that Jack Daniels, auto theft, and arson

are a regular occurrence in your love life.

Another treat is “Save Your Soul” a song about rockin’ and I have long lamented that there are not nearly enough songs about rockin’. When I was a kid it seemed like every band had a least one song per album about it.

There are the a couple of power ballads on here but they are more soft rock than the what is on Monster Ballads. “Coolest Thing” is reminiscent of Beggars & Thieves who put out one of the best albums of last year.

To put it bluntly, New Audio Machine is a shockingly good collection of catchy hard rock numbers. The band could have made a quick cash grab by putting out an album of re-recorded songs plus covers. Instead they created an album they can truly be proud of. Credit should also be given to Frontiers Records whom seem to unearth bands lost in shuffle and breath new live into them.

So I figures that I want to make a new ratings system. Granted, I do realize that I have not had a system in place as of now. Instead of doing the 5 or 10 star system, I want to implement something a tad more creative.

I am ranking a review by how much I feel someone would be happy paying for it.

The new guide is as follows:

$14.99-Regularly Priced CD

$9.99-Download from iTunes or Amazon

$5.00-wait for Amazon to have it on sale

$1.00-finding at a flea market, car wash, or pawn shop

$0-Not worth the drive space

Hopefully everyone likes it, plus it helps with when I tally everything at the end of the year.

So I figures th…
